This open area at the intersection of five Semarang has the original name Pancasila Field (Lapangan Pancasila). Initially, the Pancasila Field only functioned as a ceremonial field in the city center, and Semarang Square was still in the Kauman area. However, because this area changed its function to become a trading area, Semarang city square had to be moved. On the proposal of the first President of the Republic of Indonesia, Ir. Soekarno, the square was moved to the Pancasila Field area in 1969.
